Thanks to Allison Cassidy in the Human Services department for sharing these words of wisdom:
One of the courses I teach is Interviewing and Counseling Skills. It is a very hands-on, interactive course in which the students learn counseling skills and do a lot of role playing. One skill that we talk about a lot in the course is active listening, and I recently came across a quote that I have hanging in my office and have started sharing with my students:
“Listen and Silent are spelled with the same letters. The only way to listen is to be silent”
They got it!
