“Good Morning. You all have an F”
That is how professor Lee Sheldon would begin the first class of the semester, according to an article from MindShift. It wasn’t a way to demoralize his students, but rather his way of telling them that they start at level 1, and they can only get better from there.
Before entering education, Sheldon worked as a screen writer and game designer, and after a couple of years of teaching he realized that his former life’s work would become the cure for his students’ increasing boredom.
After weaving storytelling principles and game mechanics into his curriculum, Sheldon immediately noticed dramatic increases in student grades, attendance, and over-all engagement.
