Helping Your Students Use Zoom

A great way to alleviate your students’ Zoom link anxiety is to use the same Zoom link for all of your class meetings instead of a new one each time you meet. You will want to create a unique Zoom link to be used in each of your courses. This way, you can post just one Zoom link in each course for the entire semester. This resource, Scheduling recurring meetings – Zoom Help Center, will walk you through the steps of setting up your class meetings.

There are many options you should consider for sharing your Zoom link with your students. You can add it to your course schedule, post it in your course announcements, add a Zoom widget to your homepage, and use the HTML template called ‘Using Zoom’ in your course orientation/getting started module. You can use the following resources to get started:

Create a Zoom Homepage Widget – Want a quick way to direct students to your Zoom sessions? Create a custom widget on your homepage and students will know how to access your Zoom as soon as they enter your course. This video shares the step-by-step process for How to create a Zoom homepage widget.

Using Zoom’ HTML Template – Our ‘Using Zoom’ template has been updated to include an area for your Zoom link that makes it easy for students to locate and access it. The template also includes instructions for students on how to access Zoom from a variety of devices and how to troubleshoot when Zoom issues arise. Check out this video on How to Insert a Template into a D2L Course for more information.

Learning with Technology, LWT Resource – Refer students to The Learning with Technology course that includes a page to help students learn about accessing Zoom and using Zoom tools during synchronous sessions. The Zoom resource page is in the module, ‘What Do I Do Before the First Day of Class’ and the page is called ‘How Do I Use Zoom.
